CANPASS and honesty
One of the points of CANPASS is probably honesty — it’s written all over the forms, “this program works on the honour system”. Drove to airport today to get Karen her CANPASS completed so she can have the blessings of no customs line-ups like me. While we were waiting to go in (because the staff were on lunch break) we decided to get a coffee and a donut from the place beside the immigration office in Terminal 1. The girl takes our order and hands us what we want, we present our money and she wanders away and starts to take the next order. We look at each other, then try to get her attention so we can pay (which fails), then look at each other and then go sit down for our snack. Karen felt guilty the rest of the afternoon and was sure the CANPASS folks would somehow hold the ill-gotten donut against her immigration status.
