O’hare blows
November 28th, 2006
Stuck in Chicago again. I hate travelling through this airport because when a gopher farts the airport shuts down — seriously, there’s nothing going on, but flights are being cancelled. Mei (co-worker) and I are staying over night and have to leave to check-in at airport again at 4:30am. Means we’ll hopefully be home tomorrow by 10-11am. Sucks because it means my day is partially shot (especially if I want to get clean before I go to the office). Ah well, at least I still have better luck than Pete.

Interesting…I’ll be connecting in Chicago in a few weeks for the first time on my way to San Jose. Hope it goes more smoothly for me.

i should start to keep track of the number of trips that went without incident. Unfortunately I can’t think of any in recent history. Sigh…

Well, I made my trip, and my opinion of Chicago’s airport is that it’s crappy, because it’s exceedingly busy. They try to put too many airplanes through that airport. And they need everything to be perfect to land planes that fast. If the weather gets slightly bad, or somebody has a problem, they have to readjust and slow everyone down. It also means that they delay other planes taking off if they’re going to be through O’Hare to avoid air congestion. So basically the day starts off fine, then by the time the first few planes reach Chicago, the entire country is behind by about an hour on average.
Chicago made us delay on the tarmac in Toronto for 1 hour and 40 minutes before we could take off because they couldn’t handle the congestion. Then when we got there, we sat on the plane in the gate while they tried to unplug the toilets for 45 minutes…so even the maintenance crew sucked.
The only saving detail was that there is a Quiznos in the airport. Other than that…I concur: O’Hare blows.
FYI some wisdom from my trip: flying Toronto-Chicago-San Jose is stupid. Instead, fly Toronto-San Fransisco direct, then take a bus to San Jose. The trip from Toronto To San Fran takes the same amount of time (4.5 hrs so) as from Chicago to San Jose, because you go on a bigger plane that goes faster. Go figure!
