Optimal work effort
Being that today is a Canadian holiday I was thinking about the “free day” that we get. I really think a revolution needs to happen in the way companies do business and I want to help do it. It really makes sense to do a 4/3 split in a week with work and personal time rather than the traditional 5/2. People work and will work exceptionally hard in the 4 days (we already do 10 and 12 hour days which makes up the time) and having an extra day off during the week when businesses are open and the kids are in school might just be the magic needed to get personal stuff done. The 5/2 day is an antiquated concept from the days of heavy industry, but I’m not sure it makes much sense anymore and I know a restructured work week would be highly motivating for people. I understand that it only works for certain industries and there are interaction problems with businesses on the 5/2 schedule, but I think these are things that can be worked out. We’ll see what I can do to promote this at my current job (doubtful), but when I run my own business it will be the way that I do it.
