Conflicted…

September 2nd, 2006

Karen and I had a long conversation today about the medieval faire.  We’re both very conflicted around wanting it to continue and also wanting to be done with it.  After much analysis I think we don’t want to be done with it because:

  • it’s not that much work anymore (for us anyway)
  • we have good people helping out (some may be in need of a break themselves)
  • if we include more fresh people, they can be more involved
  • it’s a great community thing
  • if we go to 11 years, it doesn’t mean we have to go to 15 years
  • we’re not sure we want to start something else from scratch
  • we want to bring our kids to it someday

It’s really tough though.  It is similar in thinking to wanting to go out at the top of your career, not when you’re done and washed up.  I guess we’ll see, but at least we’ve admitted to ourselves that it’s not as cut and dried as “we’re done at year 10“.

That’s really great to hear. It’s such an amazing event and I am thrilled that I might get a chance to be involved again when I get back.

Well, I guess we’ll see where we get. Right now they are calling for rain on Saturday and if it’s a wash-out, I’m not sure that we can continue to do it next year so the decision might be made for us. I’m just hopeful that the choice is ours rather than being forced.
